A message from the County President

Hello All,

            It seems rather early to be sending out schedules for the Autumn Honey show, but there are  a couple of changes that I wanted to bring to your attention. Firstly, the executive committee thought that it would be a good idea to introduce a new class, for a photograph, in the honey show, to try and make the show a little more entertaining for the public. This was discussed at length  at the AGM and agreed by the members, so we need you to get snapping...... One picture, up to A4 size , mounted on card, on anything related to bees or beekeeping... ( You can enter up to 3 pictures, but each competitor can only receive one prize in any class.)

            The novice class for new beekeepers has been adjusted by adding the option of a honey cake to the list of items which accompany the honey.

            Last year, entries to the show were increased and the quality was good, but we were still a bit thin on the "Display of products" ( This usually features honeys, wax, mead, candles etc.  mounted on glass shelves or  a mirrored base or on shelving, to make a display.) Have you considered having a weekend  in Cirencester, on September 9-11.  Gloucestershire are this years hosts for the Midlands and Southwestern Counties Convention of Beekeepers - programme and details.  It is not serious or academic, but rather a fun time among a bunch of beekeepers. This year there is a special programme for new beekeepers called "Starting out with bees" running alongside the main conference. You can attend as a resident or as a day visitor.
